Athlete of the Month for January 2017

2016 is over and 2017 is here.  It is the beginning of the month and that means it is time to announce the Athlete of the Month for January 2017, the first of the year.  For this month, the coaches chose a member is known by both morning clients, evening clients, and oly clients.  She loves the barbell, but doesn’t shy away from working on her gymnastics and cardio.  She can be seen in the gym, at social events, and attending local competitions to cheer on our competitors.  Whether it is 5:15am or 6:30pm, she never shorts her effort and always has a smile.  The Athlete of the Month for January 2016 is:

KATHLEEN SIGG

1.      Where are you from originally?

Born and raised in Pittsburgh – Bethel Park to be exact.

2.     If not from Pittsburgh, what brought you to Pittsburgh?

3.     Where do you work?

I work at Federated Investors as an Internal Wholesaler.

4.     What is your favorite hobby?

Other than Crossfit of course – I love to read and spend time with my big family and friends.

5.     How did you discover CrossFit?

I discovered CrossFit through many friends who had encouraged me to try it, thinking I would love it. I discovered CrossFit at Industrial Athletics through Adam and Hillary who I met and became friends with through church.

6.     When did you start CrossFit?

I started CrossFit in July of 2016 – I watched friends compete in the Patriot Games competition, and was in the gym for fundamentals 3 days later!

7.     Why did you start CrossFit?

I started CrossFit because I had been previously doing independent training and found that I needed more individualized training and programming by someone who knew way more than I did.

8.     What is your favorite thing to do in CrossFit?

My favorite thing to do is lift heavy. And more specifically OLY lifting. I love how technical and challenging the movements are. They always leave room for improvement and desire to get better.

9.     What is your least favorite thing to do in CrossFit?

This is a hard one – most cardio movements are not my strong point. I’m going to have to go with the Assault Bike though. That thing can kill my legs in less than 10 seconds!

10.  What is the number 1 thing you want to get better at?

Again a hard one, I have so many skills to work on. One goal I have been striving towards for years now would be pull-ups.

11.  What is your favorite part about coming to CrossFit at Industrial Athletics?

My favorite part is the people. Yeah the training is amazing, the coaches are knowledgeable, but what makes CrossFit at Industrial Athletics so special is the people: the workout partners, the friends, and the genuinely great people you form a community with. We like to work hard and have fun doing it together.

12.  What is your favorite CrossFit WOD?

I don’t have a specific favorite WOD but I think it would be some sort of an OLY EMOM. Or an AMRAP that includes an OLY lift and a skill work to break it up.
