Our third athlete for 2024 is a competitor. He has been extremely consistent since starting just under a year ago. He is a team player and enjoys cracking jokes between lifts. You can typically find him jamming out to some tunes while trying to hit a big PR! Our athlete of the month for March is:

Tyler Mootz

1. Where are you from originally?

Originally from Clinton, Iowa.

2. If not from Pittsburgh, what brought you to Pittsburgh?

A moving truck. No but seriously, it was for a job at Pitt in 2017. It’s a longer story of how I ended up in Pittsburgh, but I moved away to Philly in 2019 and boomeranged back in 2022.

3. Where do you work?

I work for Accenture, which is a global tech consulting firm. We have an office downtown but I also work from home.

4. What is your favorite hobby?

5. How did you discover CrossFit?

I had met someone at a watch party for a TV show and he talked about CrossFit and enjoying it.

6. When did you start CrossFit?

Late June of 2023; not even a year in yet!

7. Why did you start CrossFit?
I was ready to change my workout routine after lifting for around 6 years.

8. What is your favorite thing to do in CrossFit?

Heavy lifts like cleans, deadlifts, and front squats.

9. What is your least favorite thing to do in CrossFit?

I’ve been known to skip days that involve thrusters; wall balls are thin ice for me.

10. What is the number 1 thing you want to get better at?

Endurance. I have pretty decent strength but I can get winded pretty easily, so I’d like to improve how long I can go with repeated reps and movements.

11. What is your favorite part about coming to CrossFit at Industrial Athletics?

Anything I really enjoy in life has always come down to the people. Everyone at the gym has been very kind and easy to talk to!

12. What is your favorite CrossFit WOD?

Anything that balances lower body lifts, upper body, and a compound movement like pull-ups and/or toes-to-bar.
