Recently, we were talking about Motivation. If you go back and check out that article, you will learn why motivation is weak and flighty. Therefore, when you get motivated to start something new, you have to strike while the iron is hot. This article is being produced in the month of December, so getting motivated for changes in your life are common place this time of year.

Don’t Wait

How many times in the past have you said, “I really wanna do this, I’m gonna start next week?”  Or, around this time of year, how many times have you said, “I really want to do this, I am going to start January 1?”  I have been doing this lately myself.  I bought a five year journal the other week.  For those who don’t know, a five year journal is journal that you write in every day for 5 years.  Each page is dated with five small areas to write a couple of lines about something memorable from that day.  Each year, you come back to that day and can see what happened last year, two years ago, three years ago, you get the point.

Anyway, I could have waited until January 1 to start this journal.  But, my motivation to start a new daily habit exists NOW.  I know that motivation will go away quickly, so I am not going to wait.

Motivation and Priorities

When we put off our motivation to start something we open up the possibility for one of two things to happen. One possibility is that our motivation will start to go away. Then, if we still want to make a change in our life, it’s that much harder to get it started. The other possibility is that our priorities will change by the time we do get started. Right now, you feel motivated, you are ready to make it a priority in your life. If you wait, something else might take that priority.

Don’t Waste This Time

So often, December becomes a month of waiting and keeping us in a holding pattern. We know the new year is coming up, we know the month is busy, and we know that the second half of the month is most likely going to be rather unproductive. Therefore, we are willing to just give up the entire month. What I want you to consider today is changing your mindset. If you are motivated to make a change in your life now, strike while the iron is hot. Don’t wait. Let something else take a priority in your life.  Use the motivation to jumpstart a new healthy habit.
