For over thirteen years, Cheryl has been a shining example of what long-term commitment to CrossFit can do for your health and well-being. She approaches every workout not with ego, but with the intention to grow—striving each day to be just a little better than the last. Her positive attitude, constant smile, and genuine excitement to connect with others make her a joy to be around in the gym. In April alone, Cheryl attended 17 classes, a testament to the priority she places on her health. Her consistency and dedication have earned her a well-deserved spot in our Committed Club, and to celebrate, we’re honoring her with a workout of her choice.
Why is fitness important to you?Â
Because Health is our first Wealth!
What motivates you on the days you don’t feel like working out?
I hear my great nephew/niece Max & Molly (currently 5yo + 3yo) yelling “Hey, Zia Cheryl, wait up!” when we go on a grand adventure in 5-10 years from now.
How do you stay consistent during busy and stressful times?
I tell my reluctant self to just GET THERE; if you can do that, you can handle whatever else is going on.
What is your biggest obstacle you face in staying committed?Â
The days when all I want to do is curl up into the fetal position, suck my thumb and feel sorry for myself. I call her “Lugubrious Lowitzer” or “Cowardly CAL” and she’s the “mean girl” in my head. My BEST friend is “Courageous CAL” (Cheryl A. Lowitzer)
How do you balance fitness with the rest of the things in your life (work, family, friends, etc)?Â
If you are a part of my work/family/friend circle, you KNOW it’s as much a priority in my life as my relationship with you is.
What role does mental health play in your physical journey?Â
My physical journey IS the path to my mental health.
What role does diet and nutrition play in your fitness commitment?Â
Well, considering my achilles heel up until now has been EMO eating, it definitely wants to move past the “understudy” role to a starring role!
What advice would you give to someone struggling to stay committed to their fitness goals?Â
“It’s the everyday part of taking the best possible care of yourself that gets the job done; even if that means start slow and taper off!”
