Do You Train Like a CrossFit Athlete?

The CrossFit Games is awesome. As a CrossFit enthusiast, there is no better way to spend a weekend than to watch the fittest people in the world crush workouts. It is incredibly motivations and inspiring to see what the human body is capable of. Also, the CrossFit Games has done an amazing job at increasing the awareness of CrossFit around the world. However, when it comes to everyday training for the average person, we have to keep things in prospective.

You Don’t Need To Train Like an Athlete

The bottom line is that you do not need to train like a professional CrossFit athlete to be in really good shape and to be really healthy. CrossFit athletes train 5-7 days per week for hours a day. They break up their training into different sessions. They do a lot of accessory work to address limitations and weaknesses. A couple of hours each week are spent with bodywork professionals like massage therapists. And, these professional athletes have to monitor their diet and sleep to reach peak performance. Most average CrossFitters don’t have this kind of time, energy, or motivations, and that’s perfectly ok.

What’s Your Individual Goal?

We all have individual goals we want to achieve. Those goals do not include being the fittest person in the world, so our training should not look like that. Generally, our members have goals that fit into one of four broad categories: Lose weight, get stronger, increase sports performance, and/or longevity of life. Our daily workout programming is designed for these goals.

When you come into Industrial Athletics, and look at the daily workout, you will see multiple versions listed on the whiteboard. This is called scaling. Each workout is modified so that anyone, regardless of age, fitness level, or previous injury history can receive similar benefits. Can’t do a muscle up? That’s ok, we can scale to pullups, banded pullups, jumping pullups, or ring rows. Can’t life 135lbs, we will scale the weight to something you can lift.

But, we don’t stop there. We program for the general goals we listed above. We scale for every fitness level. Additionally, we tailor each workout to each individual in every class. We do this to help you get to your individual goals faster. For some members, this means personal training and personal programming for even more personalization.

More Than General Programming

For those who want to dig deeper into diet and skill work, we have the Coach’s Corner Program. This is a one-on-one program with our coaches. Members receive individualized homework each month designed to reach a goal, like lose inches or learning double unders. For those who want to receive more attention on movements like weightlifting and gymnastics, one-on-one training is ideal. It provides the member with undivided attention from a coach. It gives the coach an opportunity to dive into the nitty gritty of idea movement.

We know, the CrossFit Games are cool and you admire those athletes. However, remember, they are training for their goal. They want to be the fittest person in the world. We are willing to bet that is different than your goals. Therefore, train for your goals, not theirs. We meet regularly with our members to understand what motivates you and to keep you focused on the goals that are going to benefit your life.
