Announcements for January and 2017

By December 22, 2016No Comments

Can you believe that 2016 is almost over.  It feels weird typing “2017” on my keyboard.  With the coming year, we will see some changes at Industrial Athletics.  We are going to outline those changes below.  If you have any questions, be sure to ask a coach.

  1.  New sign in/withdraw policy for 5:15am class.  Earlier this year, we set a policy asking members who regularly attend 5:15am class to withdraw their reservations the night before the class so that members on the waitlist could move into class.  For the most part, this has helped.  However, there are still instances where people are not withdrawing their reservation, or they are waking up at 5am and quickly withdrawing.  As such, starting in January, you must withdraw for the 5:15am class by 9:30pm the night before.  When you withdraw, you will receive an automated email, as will the coach assigned to that class notifying you of your early cancelation time.  If you fail to withdraw by 9:30pm and/or do not show up for the class the following day, all of your reservations will be manually withdrawn for 7 days from the date of your absence.
  2. Classes will open 1 week in advance of the class.  Currently, you are able to sign up for a class as long as you have an active membership.  Starting in January, class reservations will open 1 week in advance of that class.  We believe that this will provide all members a more equal opportunity to register for packed classes. Those already registered for classes in January must reregister when the class opens starting this Sunday.
  3. We will be adding Olympic Lifting Class to Wednesday nights at 6:30pm starting January 11th.  This will be in place of our CrossFit class at 6:30pm on Wednesday nights.  We are trying to make the Olympic Lifting Class a reputable program that is more accessible to our membership.  Wednesday nights have shown a dwindling attendance over the last 4 months.
  4. Thursday classes will now act as extra Open Gym time during each week.  Our regular schedule will still apply (5:15am, 6:15am, 9am, noon, 4:30pm, 5:30pm, and 6:30pm).  The classes will still be capped at 12.  There will still be a WOD on the board.  Attendance will still count toward your 3 days a week or punch cards.  However, if you want to use that time as an Open Gym, you will be welcome to do so.  The on duty coach will be there more as a supervisor and to help than to run a regular CrossFit class.  Those who wish to stay longer between back-to-back classes may do so as long as the subsequent class is not capped.

We have been diligent in speaking with our membership over the last few months.  Many of you have also taken the time to fill out surveys with your preferences.  These changes are being made in response to a number of suggestions, questions, and concerns.  Change is never easy and we always intend to make changes that will benefit IA as a whole.  Please continue to voice your concerns to the owner as we enter the new year and these changes take effect.

Let’s make 2017 even better than 2016.

Sincerely yours,

Matthew E. Becker
